Kala Bhavan offered Ceramic medium in 1980 under the the department of Design along with textile medium in the Department of Design. Ceramic medium was initiated by Prof. Prabir Biswas. He came from Shilpa Sadan and joined Kala Bhavan with the initiative taken by K G Subramanyam, who was teaching in Kala Bhavan. Later, in 2014 teaching of glass medium was added in the Ceramic section. Name of the section became Ceramic & Glass under the Department of Design. Now students can get admission in B Fine, M Fine and Ph. D courses in Ceramic & Glass section. The Department, in the course of time has developed necessary infrastructure for learning both the mediums ; Ceramic and Glass and known as one of the most important Department/Institute in the country that is equipped with most required technological support. Faculty members are also qualified to teach method and material besides creative conversation. Thus, Department offers courses that can help students to learn creative and functional items for sustainability and creativity.
